| UK government guilty of DPA breach
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has been found guilty of breaking data protection laws after a security lapse on a visa application website. The breach occurred on a site set up by the FCO and the Home Office to handle visa applications from overseas. An investigation by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) found that a flaw in the site meant that users could see as many as 50,000 other applicants' details when they logged in. Mick Gorrill, assistant commissioner at the ICO, said: "Organisations have a duty under the Data Protection Act to keep our personal information secure. "If organisations fail to take this responsibility seriously they leave individuals vulnerable to identity theft and risk losing individuals' confidence and trust.
Remarks of Cybersecurity and Communications Assistant Secretary Greg ...
Washington, D.C. Thank you Ron for that warm introduction. On behalf of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, I would like to welcome you all to this important summit. It is wonderful to see such a tremendous turnout for this event. And thank you Chairman Majoras for your inspiring remarks. Not only do I admire the FTCs efforts to educate all Americans on the important issue of identity theft, I appreciate the proactive measures your agency has taken to enhance the security of its own networks. DHS and FTC are working together to address this formidable cyber security challenge. As the lead Federal Government agencies for consumer protection and infrastructure protection, we have learned that individual and enterprise cyber security are really two sides of the same coin.
Gore takes environmentally friendly train on way to Nobel
How silly to exclaim "Who cares!" then waste your time blathering about it in comments. Al Gore isn't the only face behind environmentalism. Ask your preacher what they think. Ask your children. Forget VP Gore, forget his movie ... Go read a book. It's a real problem, regardless of whether you have issues with the rock-star representative. I know it's lonely being stuck with the 15% of the US who feel completely comfortable in their ignorance. You'll be lucky to wake up before your children are too old. Unfortunately, the environment doesn't pick and choose, or it'd surely send a hurricane to put you guys in your place. But something tells me you've been sniffing petrol for a while now. It probably wouldn't change much. .
Brown puts stamp on US relations as he signals British pull-out from ...
But the Prime Minister made it clear that the aim was to give control to the Iraqi forces and authorities when circumstances allow. Mr Brown said: "Our aim, as is the aim of the US government, is threefold: security for the Iraqi people, political reconciliation and that the Iraqis have a stake in the future ." He proposed financing for an economic development agency for Basra to help provide jobs and stability. And he also described Afghanistan as the "front-line against terrorism". For his part, Mr Bush made clear he believed Mr Brown "understands that failure in Iraq would be a disaster for the security of our own countries". "There is no doubt in my mind that he will keep me abreast of his military commanders' recommendations based upon conditions on the ground," he said, in a pointed reference to Mr Brown's pledge to inform parliament first of any withdrawal plans.
Slow down traffic on Withers Road
Can we please also have a speed limit of 30 mph on Withers Road, just like on Sartain and some other county roads? We residents would really appreciate it.Thank you very, very much.Catherine Moe Mineral WellsSenior Salute was not an embarrassment Dear Editor,This letter is in response to, "There's more to the band salute than first stated." I am one of the seniors who did the salute at the Nov. 9 Senior Night/last game in Miller Stadium. It's my duty to inform the public of what happened prior to that event. The day of the last game, we were in the band hall about to leave for the game when the director started to give us his "Prior Game Speech." He was talking about how it's the last game in Miller Stadium and how we will always remember the last game forever. He said he had heard "rumors" about a "senior prank." He told the band that if anything was done to embarrass the band, that there would be consequences.Well, at halftime we did our Senior Salute (for those who didn't see it, it's available online).

Stunned by Lack of Outrage, Not Outrageous Acts
I continue to be stunned. Not by Bush any longer. There was a time when I was stunned by nearly everything he did. Or said. Who wouldn't be stunned by a president who could say, "They misunderestimated me," and sincerely believe he's on top of things? Nor by Cheney. His pure evil no longer surprises me, although there was a time when he routinely stunned me. Torture? Torture?? Not by Congress, either. There was a time when I was stunned by that crowd's sheeplike mentality. I'd hear them decry the war, decry torture, decry Bush's growing deficit, then I'd drop my jaw as they voted time and again to give the president carte blanche. No longer. I fully expect Congress to disappoint, to fail to do its job in balancing the White House power grab.
